2012: Judgment Day or Disaster Movie Excuse?

Tuesday, April 13th, 2010

Twenty twelve is anticpated to be a momentous year, the very first winter youth Olympics will be held in January, America will hold a presidential election and the United Kingdom will celebrate the diamond jubilee of Queen Elizabeth. But if you are getting excited about 2013 don’t get your hopes up, because according to some predictions, everything is due to end on December 21. If you enjoy Christmas, make the most of this year and the next, since based on the Mayan calendar, they’ll be your very last. Perhaps.

Well before Europeans appeared in meso America the populace employed a complicated mixture of calendars to record their dates.  The Haab or solar calendar, both a timepiece and Mayan art form, was comprised of eighteen 20 day months including a interval of five days named Wayeb to bring the total to 365.

The Tzolkin however was a cycle of 260 days, thirteen times twenty.  No-one knows quite precisely why 260 days were chosen, however it appears that the numbers 13 and twenty were both significant to these early civilizations. There is a possibility that it was based on the amount of time between a woman’s first missed period and the birth of  her offspring, and helped foretell when a infant would be born, however other notions about crop planting and astrological observations may perhaps be just as correct. Nearly all dates could be established by a combination of the Haab and Tzolin, the cycle would come along one time every fifty two years, that is roughly once in every generation.

To look at cycles for a longer period than 52 years the Mayans employed a different structure which we now call the Long Count calendar. This method is shown in both Olmec and Aztec art and wasn’t invented by the Maya. Dates run forward from the mythical day zero, the date from the beginning of the existing world. Like all civilizations the base units were days, with 20 days in a uinal and eighteen uinals in the tun (approximately a year). A K’atun contains twenty tuns and twenty of these a b’ak’tun. Once more the number thirteen was important and several inscriptions in Mayan artwork display the date changing at the end of 13 b’ak’tuns and spoke of events to occur on that date. This lead to  a belief that the Mayans expected something important to occur around the last day of the 13th B’ak’tun. That day is calculated to be 21st or 23 December 2012. So what can we expect?

Well according to a large number of scholars nothing whatsoever. There are some references to something taking place about that time in inscriptions, but nothing very concrete, so it’s surprising the amount of fascination 2012 is creating. Some say there will a spiritual evolution, while some mention a momentous galactic alignment, even though this is based on the location of the galactic equator, which can’t be determined, this does not appear extremely probable. Yet others worry about planet Niburu.

Collision with planet X (or Niburu) was predicted since 2003, but any planet near enough to be in collision with the Earth in 2012 would certainly now be plainly visible to astronomers in the evening sky. Sadly this fictional collision has become confused in the press with the actual and expected approach of a giant asteroid referred to as Eros that is likely to pass the earth in 2012. Eros is greater than the asteroid that we think wiped out the dinosaurs 65 millions years ago but since it won’t ever end up being closer than seventy times the distance from the moon, it’s not likely to do any destruction.

Looking at the Mayan calendar is a great reason to take into account the way we calculate time and why, to understand the solar cycles that still dominate our lives and also to admire the artwork of an intriguing culture. As to getting ready for the end of the world, that still would seem slightly premature.

2012: Judgment Day or Disaster Movie Excuse?

Friday, March 26th, 2010

2012 is anticpated to be a momentous time, the first winter youth Olympics is going to be held in January, the United States are going to have a presidential election and the UK will observe the diamond jubilee of Queen Elizabeth. But if you're looking forward to 2013 don't get your hopes up, considering that based on some predictions, everything is due to end on December 21. If you delight in Christmas, make the most of this season and the next, since as outlined by the Mayan calendar, they'll be your last. Potentially.

Prior to Europeans arrived in meso America the population utilized a complicated mixture of calendars to record their dates.  The Haab or solar calendar, both a timepiece and Mayan art form, was constructed from 18 twenty day months and also a period of five days named Wayeb to bring the total to 365.

The Tzolkin on the other hand was a cycle of 260 days, thirteen multiplied by twenty.  No-one is aware quite why 260 days were decided on, although it appears the numbers thirteen along with twenty were both important to these early cultures. There is a possibility that it is based on the time period in between a woman's initial missed period and the birth of  her child, and made it easier to estimate when a infant might be born, however other ideas about crop harvesting and zodiac findings may perhaps be just as correct. Most dates could be set by a mix of the Haab and Tzolin, the cycle would come together one time every fifty two years, which is roughly once in every lifetime.

To look at periods longer than fifty-two years the Mayans used another method which we now call the Long Count calendar. This system is found in both Olmec and Aztec art and wasn't invented by the Maya. Dates run forwards from a mythologic day zero, the particular date from the beginning of the current world. Just like all cultures the base units were days, with 20 days in a uinal and eighteen uinals in a tun (more or less a year). A K'atun consisted of twenty tuns and 20 of these a b'ak'tun. Once more the number thirteen was important and quite a few inscriptions in Mayan artwork show the date changing at the end of 13 b'ak'tuns and spoke of incidents that occur on this date. This resulted in  suggestions that the Mayans anticipated something substantial to occur on the last day of the 13th B'ak'tun. That day has been calculated to be 21st or 23 December 2012. What exactly can we expect?

Well according to several scholars nothing whatsoever. There are some references to something going on about that point in time in inscriptions, but nothing really concrete, therefore it is really surprising just how much fuss 2012 seems to be creating. A few say there will a spiritual evolution, while other people talk about a momentous galactic alignment, though this is based on the location of the galactic equator, which cannot be established, this does not seem very likely. But others worry about planet Niburu.

Collision with planet X (or Niburu) has been predicted since 2003, but any planet close enough to be in collision with the Earth in 2012 would certainly now be obviously visible to astronomers in the night sky. Sadly this fictional collision has become confused in the media with the actual and expected approach of a giant asteroid referred to as Eros which is likely to pass the earth in 2012. Eros is bigger than the asteroid that we think wiped out the dinosaurs 65 millions years back but since it won't ever be nearer than 70 times the distance of the moon, it's not likely to do any destruction.

Looking at the Mayan calendar is a great reason to think about how we measure time and why, to be aware of the solar cycles that still rule our life and to enjoy the artwork of an intriguing civilization. As to preparing for the end of the world, that still appears a little bit premature.

The End of The World in 2012

There is one date almost every person on the earth is aware of – 21 December 2012. If there is something that many of the major religions have in common then it must be on December 21 2012 Doomsday predictions. Almost every major religious text has got references to this being the time when major changes could occur in our planet.

The most significant prediction was made by Mayans, in their calendar, 21 december 2012 is the last date. According to the world will enter a new age on the particular date. Since Mayans were very knowledgeable in astronomy and science, people believe in their predictions. Let us take a look at 4 top reasons why the December 21st, 2012 is so important.

1. The Calendar has been made more than 3,500 years ago by mayans who were very experienced in mathematics, science and astrology. The calendar clearly mentions that there would be major changes that would take place in the world, come December 2012 Doomsday.

2. There are many among the scientific community who believe that due to global warming, solar storms would be entering the earth in large quantities by 2012 and this could trigger off a series of catastrophes. People who follow this theory are sure that on December 2012 the mankind will extinct and our world will be destroyes.

3. There are also many scientists who believe that in 2012 there will be many volcanic eruptions because their activity increases from year to year. This people are sure that this terrible volcan eruptions will change our climate and make live on our planet impossible.

4. There are also many people who believe that earth’s poles will shift on 21 december 2012, this action will destroy life on our planet.

Many sites have appeared on the internet offering theories, advice and info on the phenomenon that is 2012. The thing is, finding scientifically proven theories is not an easy thing. If you want to get more info on the theme, just visit the link above.

21 December 2012 - The End of The World?

Saturday, October 24th, 2009

With the phenomenon that is 21 December 2012 and the end of the world scenario it is supposed to bring coming to the fore in recent years, what is it really all about? Is the world really going to end like many people suggest, or is it just a work of fiction like the upcoming Hollywood film? No one really knows, but it’s always best to be prepared. And so, then, we have to ask: do you feel ready for the events of 2012?

Lots of individuals are getting prepared in a similar manner they did for the Y2K scare at the turn of the millennium. They are trying to stockpile all the essentials they believe will keep them safe during the natural disasters that are meant to occur. But will these bunkers really keep them safe? Well, that all depends. If the forces of nature are really going to be as horrible as people claim, it’s really debatable. The massive earthquakes that could occur as a result of the shift in the earth’s magnetic poles, for example, could rip apart any shelter.

It is always good advice though to be prepared for any disaster event that may happen. You should always have a first aid kit, emergency rations, and things like a flash light, radio, and blanket stored in an easy to access location. Talking over what to do in a disaster with your family is also a good idea. This will stand you in good stead though even if 2012 didn’t happen; you and your family would know what to do in the event of a “normal” natural disaster happening. Learning about the 2012 end of the world disaster is important, especially if you are to be prepared for it. You can visit www.2012officialcountdown.com to learn about the various ways the world may end and how you can deal with them. There is an especially good guide which will show you not only how to survive a disaster, but what to do after the event.

I hope you found this information useful. Good luck..

Malachy, Mayan Calendar, Pope Prophecies Correlating To 2012 or 2017?

Saturday, August 1st, 2009

Interestingly enough, for all the talk about 2012, it is quite difficult to find a simple listing of all the prophecies. Most of what you find on the Internet is vague generalizations of mass destruction or a transformation into a new age. I found a couple decent sources, and I have listed them below. What I found odd was the ability to correlate more information about 2017 than 2012 using several different resources.

So now we’ve got Israel and Iran butting heads, who knows what’s next. Is this “nation rising against nation” from the book of REV? I happened to go on youtube and read a comment left by a person who claims to have visited the Mayan civilization while on vacation who stated that they have no calendar that ends on 2012. They said the Mayans didn’t know where the rumor was started. I found several links which seemed to correlate everything with the year 2017 as some sort of new beginning.

If you find this interesting you should also be able to find other links within these links on the video. Malachy Prophecy of the popes states there would be 112 popes before the “end” would come. He named each pope. We are on the 111th now and very close to the year 2017.

112 popes prophecy and we’re on 111 now and close to the year 2017? St. Malachy prophecy:

St. Malachy prophecy: Many scholars of St. Malachy’s Prophecy believed that Pope # 111 would be ” Olive’s Glory” because he will be of the Order of St. Benedictine. Here are the prophecies of Malachy: The Last 10 Popes 1. “The Burning Fire”. PIUS X. 1903-1914. This Pope showed a burning passion for spiritual renewal in the Church. 2. “Religion Laid Waste”. BENEDICT XV. 1914-1922. During this Pope’s reign saw Communism move into Russia where religious life was laid waste, and World War I with the death of millions of Christians who were carnage in Flanders Field and elsewhere. 3. “Unshaken Faith”. PIUS XI. 1922-1939. This Pope faced tremendous pressure from fascist and sinister powers in Germany and Italy, but he was an outspoken critic of Communism and Fascism which enraged Hitler. 4. “An Angelic Shepherd”. PIUS XII. 1939-1958. This Pope had an affinity for the spiritual world and received visions which have not been made public. Peter Bander says Pius XII “has emerged as one of the great Popes of all time,” and he “was in the truest sense of the word an Angelic Pastor to the flock…” 5. “Pastor and Mariner”. JOHN XXIII. 1958-1963. John was a pastor to the world, much beloved, and the Patriarch of Venice. The connection to “mariner” is thus remarkable. 6. “Flower of Flowers”. PAUL VI. 1963-1978. Paul’s coat-of-arms depicts three fleurs-de-lis, corresponding to Malachy’s prophecy. His coat of arms included three fleurs-de-lis (iris blossoms). 7. “Of the Half Moon”. JOHN PAUL I. 1978-1978. John Paul I was elected Pope on August 26, 1978, when there was a half moon. He reigned 33 days, that is, about one month, when he died, although many think he was murdered. He was the 109th Pope - is “De Medietate Lunae” (Of the Half Moon). The corresponding pope was John Paul I (1978-78), who was born in the diocese of Belluno (beautiful moon) and was baptized Albino Luciani (white light). He became pope on August 26, 1978, when the moon appeared exactly half full. It was in its waning phase. He died the following month, soon after an eclipse of the moon. 8. “The Labor of the Son”. oJOHN PAUL II. 1978-2005. Pope John Paul II was the most traveled Pope in history. He circled the globe numerous times, preaching to huge audiences everywhere he went. He survived an assassination attempt. He has written a book which has enjoyed a large circulation. Like the sun which never ceases to labor and provides light daily, this Pope has been incessant. He was born on May 18, 1920. On that date in the morning there was a near total eclipse of the sun over Europe. Prophecy - The 110th Pope is “De Labore Solis” (Of the Solar Eclipse, or, From the Toil of the Sun). Like the sun he came out of the East (Poland). 9. “The Glory of the Olive”. The Order of St. Benedict has said this Pope will come from their order. It is interesting that Jesus gave his apocalyptic prophecy about the end of time from the Mount of Olives. This Pope will reign during the beginning of the tribulation Jesus spoke of. The 111th prophesy is “Gloria Olivae” (The Glory of the Olive). The Order of Saint Benedict has claimed that this pope will come from their ranks. Saint Benedict himself prophesied that before the end of the world his Order, known also as the Olivetans, will triumphantly lead the Catholic Church in its fight against evil. 10. “PETER THE ROMAN” - On several blogs this pope is thought to be Satan??! taking the form of a man named Peter who will gain a worldwide allegiance and adoration. He will be the final antichrist which prophecy students have long foretold. If it were possible, even the very elect would be deceived. The 112th prophesy states: “In the final persecution of the Holy Roman Church there will reign Petrus Romanus, who will feed his flock amid many tribulations; after which the seven-hilled city will be destroyed and the dreadful Judge will judge the people. The End.” Malachy’s final words, “Rome, the seat of the Vatican, will be destroyed and the dreadful Judge will judge the people.”

MSNBC ran a news story about a possible cashless society by 2017.

Daniel’s Timeline ends in 2017: ARE WE SUPPOSED TO KNOW WHEN? There is a multitude of verses from the most ancient of all books concerning the Lords return and even an admonishment from Him saying:

There is a multitude of verses concerning the Lords return and even an admonishment from Him saying, Ye hypocrites, ye can discern the face of the sky and of the earth; but how is it that you do not discern this time? [youtube:q9lxROtSPXw;daniel's timeline;http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q9lxROtSPXw&feature=related]

That one verse should be proof enough that we should know, but He is not just going to spell it out. We also know there are NO idle words in the Word of God. If therefore, it is not meant for us to understand or know the time of His coming, wouldn’t all the verses with clues pertaining to the time of His return be counted as idle words? Here are only a few of many verses telling us that God will teach us all things; He will show us things that are to come which includes the return of His Son; And God says and He will show His servants things that must shortly be done. In Daniel, We are given a definite sequence of years that can now be understood. Just being able to understand things that have been a mystery for centuries should be a huge clue to us that time is short and approaching when all things will be finished.

Thessalonians-1 5:4-5 But ye, brethren, are not in darkness, that that day should overtake you as a thief Ye are all the children of light, and the children of the day: we are not of the night, nor of darkness.

In conclusion, Christians have predicted several events that many believe are related: the second coming of Jesus, the war of Armageddon, the arrival on earth of the Antichrist, the Tribulation, the rapture, some horrendous natural disaster, etc. We have been criticized by some of our readers for whipping up hysteria about the end of the world. Our intent is the exact opposite: we would like to lessen the level of panic. We hope that by listing many of the past predictions that people will realize that some very important individuals have been totally wrong when they predicted the end of the world.

Daniel’s Prophetic Timeline reveals 2010-2017 7 year trib period? - Revelation’s prophecy, future prophecy end time prophecies catholic prophecy prophetic prophecy 2012 news and prophecy prophesy end prophecy. World prophecy prophecy god what is prophecy new prophecy prophecy ex prophecy times prophecy 2008 prophecy in news revelation or antichrist predictions. Armageddon 2012 second coming the last pope malachy st malachy pope prophecy also saint malachy end times prophecy and bible prophecies.

End of the world predictions have been common throughout Christianity and other religions for almost 2000 years. Here are a few predictions that didn’t come true: 1998 to 2012 Gordon-Michael Scallion predicted major catastrophic earth events: global warming, melting polar ice caps, earthquakes, volcanoes erupting, etc. Well, we’re not experiencing these right now and it’s 2009. 21st century: Thomas Chase predicted that when the world’s population reaches 6.66 billion, the war of Armageddon may occur. The population has already passed this number. Before 2019: Tathagata predicted in 1999 that the end of the world as we know it will happen within the next twenty years. an imbalance in gravity will cause the disappearance of all civilizations by a 1000 meter high tsunami, as well as earthquakes, volcanoes and “crustal formations. … Most of creatures are to be exterminated.” Here are the 2017 common predictions: The “Sword of God Brotherhood” believes that Armageddon will occur in the year 2017. The Prophet Gabriel has told them this. Only their own members will survive to re-populate the entire world. All of the others (including you and me) will “perish in hellfire.”

Daniel’s Timeline bases their calculation on the concept of Jubilee years which occur every 50 years. The most recent three Jubilees were: 1867 when the Jews were emancipated in Austria and Hungary. 1917 when the Ottomon rule ended and the Balfour Declaration was created. 1967 when the Six Day War occurred. They predict that the next and final Jubilee yr will be 2017: “the time of the restitution of all things.” There is every likelihood that most (perhaps all) of these future predictions will never materialize. We will be very surprised if one of them did. The sole purpose of this article is to provide general internet links and interesting information. It does not reflect the views of the author.
